Capitol School is designed for children with language and learning differences and average to above average learning potential. We base our decisions about this on speech and language evaluations, report cards, educational testing, and observation.
CSA recommends that parents attend a Visitors' Day to learn about the school. On Visitors' Day, the family meets with the Business Manager, Rob Hoffman, receives a tour of the school and then spends short periods of time in two appropriate classes. Following this, the families meet with the director, Jeannette Young, for additional information about the program and a question and answer session. If at this time the family feels this is a good placement for their child, then an Application Form is submitted.
CSA has an Admissions, Review and Dismissal Committee (ADRC) that reviews the application. The family will receive a letter scheduling a 2-3 day visit, if they agree that CSA can meet the needs of the child. The director will also be in contact with the family. The ADRC will then observe the child during the visit. The following Friday, the committee will meet to determine whether or not the child would benefit from the program at Capitol School of Austin. A formal letter stating the recommendations will be sent and the director will contact the family. The child be enrolled in the class, depending classroom availability, parent wishes, and ADRC recommendations.
Several things to remember to assist with the admissions process:
- To request an application packet, please complete the online intake form or call the school office at (512) 467-7006.
- Submit all requested information, including current speech and language reports, educational testing, neurological reports, or behavioral evaluations.
- Send in the application fee with the application.
- The application is not reviewed until all reports and fees are submitted.
- At certain times during the year, particularly late fall and early spring, admissions are high; it may take one-two weeks to complete the review of the application and to schedule a visit.
- We thank you for your interest in CSA and will do our best to make this as efficient and pleasant a process as possible!
