Capitol School Speech-Language Program:

Language Stimulation: Karen Abbott is pleased to return to Capitol School to lead the Language Stimulation class. She graduated from UT Austin with a master's in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2006. Karen has previously worked at CSA as lead for Level 1, co-teacher for Level 5/6, and summer camp lead for Level 3. She has also worked as an SLP in the public school system and in private practice. She is a licensed and certified speech language pathologist and a member of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She especially enjoys using story-based interventions to encourage early language and literacy development.

Level I: Cezanne McLoughlin is returning for her second year at Capitol School. She holds a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked as a graduate clinician in several pre-school settings. She is holds a Texas License and is currently seeking ASHA certification in speech-language pathology.


Level II: Niki Land is beginning her seventh year at CSA and has eight years experience as a speech language pathologist. Niki has a master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Texas at Dallas. She has a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in Speech Communication. Niki holds a Texas License and ASHA certification in speech-language pathology.


Level III:
Ysidra Williams is back on the CSA staff for her ninth year. Ysidra has a master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a bachelor's degree in Psychology, both from the University of Texas at Austin. Ysidra holds a Texas license in speech-language pathology and has ASHA certification. Ysidra has training in Basic Language and Lindamood Bell and has attended many workshops in best practices in speech-language pathology.

Level IV/V: Terri Hathaway is excited to return to Capitol School as the Level IV/V lead teacher. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and is licensed as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant. She has completed an alternative certification program for Special Education. To facilitate learning in the classroom, she has completed training in the Basic Language Skills reading program,as well as Scott Foresman, and is working toward her certification as an Academic Language Therapist.


Level V: Sharon English continues as the Upper Level Consultant and the Level V reading teacher. Sharon has taught for 22 years and has been with Capitol School since 1993 as both classroom teacher and consultant. Sharon has a master's degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Houston and a bachelor's degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Sharon holds a Texas license in speech-language pathology and has ASHA certification. Sharon previously taught at the Parish School in Houston. All of Sharon's experience has involved children with language and learning differences and children with attention deficit disorder. Sharon has training in Basic Language and Lindamood Bell. In addition, Sharon seeks out information about best practices in speech and language pathology. Sharon is the mother of two young children.

Library/Drama: Ellen Pokorny Roberts is beginning her 18th year at CSA. She taught levels I and II for 10 years and has been the school librarian. She begins her seventh year teaching drama for the Level III-VI classrooms and helps all levels enjoy their weekly library time. She holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin and a master's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. Ellen has a Texas state teaching certificate, a Texas License for speech-language pathology and ASHA certification.

Capitol School Lower-Ratio Program:

Level A: Ms. Jeannie Aguilar is excited to join the CSA staff for her first year as a Lead Teacher. Jeannie is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She has a Master's degree with a dual specialization in Early Childhood Special Education and Autism and Developmental Disabiliteis and a Bachelors degree in Psychology specializing in Child Development and Early Childhood Intervention. She also has five years experience working in home programs as a therapist and consultant. She is starting the Doctoral Program in Autism and Developmental Disabilities at the University of Texas at Austin.

Level A2: Ms. Emily Harrison returns for her third year as a lead teacher. Emily has a Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Texas at Austin as well as a Bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology from Marquette University. She has two years of classroom experience as a teaching assistant and substitute in addition to five years experience as a home therapist. Emily continues to seek out information about oral motor techniques, sensory integration, and sign language. She also holds a Texas Speech Therapy Assistant's license.

Level B: Ms. Christine Hebl is delighted to be back at Capitol School for a second year. This year, she is leading the Level B classroom, which she also lead during the summer enrichment camp. Last year, she was an assistant in the Lower-Ratio program. Christine has nearly five years' experience working with children with autism and special needs in various programs around the country. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She is currently working on a graduate academic certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas, with the goal of becoming a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst next year.
